After work Josh and I picked Teddy up from Puppy Playground. We like to take Ted to daycare on days when we know we will be gone all day for work and then want to do something at night. Then, knowing we had our first sprint triathlon on Saturday morning, we wanted our friend Jeff (who was also doing the sprint triathlon) to look at our bikes to make sure they were ready to go.
We went to Rook for dinner. As always it was delicious! We both got the Mami Ramen (ramen with brisket, mushrooms, bok choy, bean sprouts, and green onion). We also got the Kare Kare dumplings (they were just ok). I got the “New Bae” cocktail, it was very rum-banana-coconut milk-y and really good.
After dinner we went home to bed since we had to be up at 5:30 for the sprint triathlon!
We woke up super early to get to Eagle Creek Park for the sprint triathlon. We had no idea what to expect since this was the first time doing it for the both of us. Once we checked in, we set up our bikes and then headed toward the water. I was really nervous for the swimming portion of the race. I’m a decent swimmer, but swimming for exercise is hard and I assumed swimming in a group was even harder. I was right. They let people get in the water every 2 seconds. I felt like people kept trying to swim on top of me and I really struggled. My goggles kept fogging up and filling with water. Let’s just say that I was SOOO happy when my feet were on land again. The bike portion was difficult as the course was pretty hilly. Josh was ahead of me the whole time so my motivation was to catch him. I DID catch him and crossed the finish line before him, but according to his time, he still beat me by less than a second.
Things I would change if I did another sprint triathlon:
- Train harder. More swimming training especially.
- Wear a different bathing suit or buy a wet suit. I was SO uncomfortable in the suit I wore.
- Buy different, non-foggy goggles.
- Learn how to use my bike and the gears better.
Again, we weren’t super prepared for the race, but I’m glad I can say I did it! All in all, it was fun to do it together and I think we would do another sprint triathlon, but we would definitely need to train harder. After the race we stuffed our faces at Cracker Barrel. We were pretty lazy on Saturday during the day, but went to the Jason Aldean concert Satruday night.
Sunday was low key and spent on a boat with friends!
I hope everyone had a fabulous weekend!
