This weekend I got to visit my bestie Blaine in Columbus, OH! It was so nice to have a low key girls weekend and just hang out. On Friday we went to the Hanover Alumni Pub Night in Columbus which Blaine organized. We had dinner and drinks at the Rusty Bucket, ate ice cream, walked around the mall, and then headed home because we had a race in the morning!
Originally we signed up for the half marathon, but we both felt unprepared to run 13.1 miles so we opted for the 10k instead. We were soooooo happy that we decided to do the 10k. It was extremely hot and there was pretty much no shade on the entire course. We were more interested in the quality time than the possibility of PR’ing.
Following the race Blaine and I went to 101 Beer Kitchen, but it wasn’t open yet so we walked over to Duck Donuts. OMG. No joke, these were some of the best donuts I’ve ever eaten. Duck Donuts prepares cake donuts and then you can add whatever toppings you want. Blaine chose blueberry icing and Oreo crumbles and then I chose a cinnamon sugar coating. They came out hot and were A-MAZING!
After our little donut and iced coffee appetizer, we had breakfast at 101 Beer Kitchen. I had the Low Country Benedict–eggs benedict with with fried polenta, shrimp, ham, and Andouille sausage. Blaine had the fried chicken and biscuits with this honey/caramel gravy on it. DELICIOUS.
Then we headed to Otterbein’s campus and the little main street of Westerville. There were some really cute boutiques and this amazing wine shop. Flights of wine were 100% necessary.
Blaine showed me around Denison University where she and her husband, Rory, work. It’s a cute university in the even cuter town of Granville, OH. The houses are super old and the shops and boutiques are great. Blaine can walk to work which I think is so cool!
After showering we went to the Broadway Pub for dinner. We shared the buffalo chicken dip and I had meatloaf, brussels sprouts, and mashed potatoes for dinner. It was a good meal to have after having run 6+ miles that morning and then walking around all day.
The rest of the night we just lounged and watched Midnight in Paris. It was a bit of an odd movie, but it was nice to not do anything and just lay around. The heat and the sun really took it out of us! In the morning, before heading home, I stopped at Fox in the Snow Cafe and got a ham and cheese croissant and a coffee. Blaine introduced me to this place and it is must visit when I come to Columbus.
Sunday night we cooked out and had dinner with my parents to celebrate Father’s Day. Now we’re midway through the week and I’m counting down the days until I leave for Oregon!
